New API Documentation and Sample Code

The Delve APIs provide developers with the tools they need to create interactive video experiences and integrate with existing internal practices. In order to further aid developers in their development efforts we have rendered our API documentation in HTML format and have added many examples of sample code. Developers can now gain access to our API documentation and sample code through their Delve account by accessing the ‘Developer Tools’ tab under ‘Settings’. Sample code examples include the creation of an upload media form and the adding of custom video properties to media.

New Feature: Geographic Location and Domain Control

We’re excited to announce a new feature that has been released to all customers. Previously in beta, Delve has added the ability to set geographic and domain restrictions to content. Users can now go to the “Settings” link in the Delve console to control where and on which domains content can be played by creating ‘Restriction Rules’. Rules can either restrict content from playing in certain locations/domains (black lists) or permit content to play in certain locations/domains (white lists). Created rules can then be applied to both channels and/or individual media in an account.

Odds & Ends: API Improvements

This week I am writing about some small changes we have made to our API’s in the past few weeks. At Delve we believe in continuously improving our product -sometimes that means releasing bite-size features that nonetheless make our products more useful to our customers.

For instance, when a publisher uploads a video to our platform, the video is assigned a media ID which can then be used via the Content API to uniquely identify the video. Many of our customers, however, have large libraries of videos that already have unique ID’s assigned to those videos.

For these customers maintaining an association between the existing unique ID and the new unique ID the Delve platform assigns to each video is critical. That is why we just released an improvement to our API that lets a customer associate an existing unique ID to a video in our platform by using a special metadata property called “Reference ID” (See screenshot of the UI on this post). The “Reference ID” is a special custom property (unlike other custom video properties which we also support) because the value of this property can also be modified and viewed from our console UI.

In addition to the Reference ID property, publishers can now access the “Upload Date” and “Publish Date” properties via the Content API.

But wait, there is more! We have added more examples and sample code to our API documentation to make it easier for publishers to create rich websites. The Player API can be found here. The Content API and Analytics API documentation can be found here and here, respectively.

Syndicate Your Videos to Apple iTunes Store

From time to time, Delve likes to remind our customers of the powerful syndication tools that are already part of the Delve Networks online video platform. Take iTunes for example. Delve provides two options for distributing an iTunes feed to your audience. Give viewers the ability to subscribe directly though a Delve Networks player or promote discoverability in ITunes search by submitting your feed to the iTunes store. Both options are already ready for use in your Delve account. Make your content global!

So it’s really cool that Delve’s Platform supports Adaptive Streaming which has the intelligence to align your video bitrate with bandwidth availability to optimize viewing experience. However, we recognize that sometimes you want your viewers to be given control…and choose for themselves the video quality they’re watching. Using our Player Builder tool you can create players that have a dynamic bitrate control button right on the player.

The button sits on your player control bar, and by default displays the current bitrate quality that is streaming. Plus, it allows viewers to change the video bitrate from a drop down list and test out their options! Get wild and let your viewers have more control over their viewing experience right now!
