Online Video Advertising: Encouraging News for 2009

It can be difficult to find a “ray of light” amidst all the economic doom and gloom. Today, eMarketer released a study covering online advertising spending projections from 2007-2013 which includes some encouraging news about online video advertising growth. This study comes after a different eMarketer online advertising study from earlier this year reduced 2008 online advertising by $1.3B (an increase of 11.3% for the year).

Despite a reduction in overall online advertising growth, eMarketer believes online video advertising will buck the trend and expects online video advertising spending to grow from $587m in 2008 to $4.6b in 2013.

To put this in perspective, by 2013 online video advertising spending will aproximately half of the total US search advertising spending in 2008. We certainly know how big that market is today. To ensure our customers can have the best tools available for monetizing their content, we plan to continue to invest in the advertising functionality of the Delve Video Platform and work with our partners like Tremor and Adap.tv (hopefully we’ll have more advertising partners to announce soon).
